Sometimes You Just Have to Say...
by Kecia Brown, from Fort Collins, Colorado

I am exactly enough me
Not too much
Not too little
Just enough attitude,
just enough spirituality
Just enough gumption
Just enough ghetto,
just enough corporate
Just enough diva,
just enough dogma
Just enough Black,
just enough "Other"
Just enough redemption
Just enough corruption
Just enough intelligence
Just enough stupidity
Just enough of what my Creator
has blessed me to be

So enough.

Enough of this feeling inferior
Enough of feeling like a victim
Enough of walking by Sista’s thinking
"Maybe she'd be enough for him."
Enough of coming in last
And coming up short
Enough of re-living the life of
A rape victim
An unloved woman
A fatherless child
On this day
I take back my personhood
And as I reclaim,
Exclaim
To those who unjustly persecute me
Enough
Is
ENOUGH!
